Why I Am OBSESSED With The Universe

The heavens proclaim the glory of God.

2 Day after day they continue to speak;

night after night they make him known.

3 They speak without a sound or word;

their voice is never heard.[a]

4 Yet their message has gone throughout the earth,

and their words to all the world.

~ Psalm 19:1-4

I am OBSESSED with the universe because Abraham is my father!! If this intrigues you, read on. If you question my sanity as a “Jesus follower,” read on. In other words, if you have a LARGE MIND, read on!

“Then the LORD took Abram outside and said to him, ‘Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. That’s how many descendants you will have!'” ~ Genesis 15:5, NLT

If you are still reading this, you are one of the brave believers, with whom I cherish connection! You might be…a fellow follower! It was GOD who INSTRUCTED Abram (Abraham) to look to the universe. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob calls us today!

I will cause your descendants to become as numerous as the stars of the sky, and I will give them all these lands. And through your descendants, all the nations of the earth will be blessed. ~ Genesis 26:4, NLT

It is this simple today. As with Abraham, God makes promises to us. This incomprehensible God of the Universe has a “ton” of promises for all followers. Believing happens when we recognize that the Eternal cannot be predicted. Look at that sky! Abraham had his moments – Sarah laughed at the promises (Gen. 18:12ff), but that which they would have never predicted manifested in their lives!

Need more references…hold on…

Look up into the sky and see the clouds high above you... ~Job 35:5, NLT

Take the Scripture with you and meditate – I dare you! Your concept of God will enlarge exponentially!

Look up into the heavens.
    Who created all the stars?
He brings them out like an army, one after another,
    calling each by its name.
Because of his great power and incomparable strength,
not a single one is missing.
~ Isaiah 40:26

LASTLY, but not everything folks – I will be adding more blogs on this subject from time to time…I am obsessed with looking upward to see the universe above me. I AM a child of Abraham and an heir according to the promise!

The real children of Abraham, then, are those who put their faith in God.What’s more, the Scriptures looked forward to this time when God would make the Gentiles [nations] right in his sight because of their faith. God proclaimed this good news to Abraham long ago when he said, “All nations will be blessed through you.”

So all who put their faith in Christ share the same blessing Abraham received because of his faith. ~Galations 6:7-9

Five Ways to Focus on Goal Setting

LIFE: The Obstacle Course

Obstacles!

If you ever attempted a game of golf, you will understand immediately! Life can be compared to the obstacle course. It’s all about overcoming the challenges which are obstacles to your desired goal. Like the golf course, some obstacles are more difficult to navigate than others. We have bunkers; some are sand traps. There are hazards of numerous descriptions. These obstacles are put there for a reason – to TEST our skill. However, golf, like life, requires more than skill.

Hazard

It’s only normal to encounter obstacles in pursuit of your goal. It’s like a test to see if you’re worthy. If we allow an obstacle to become a nuisance, we risk abandoning our goal. At this point, we must act and seriously think things through.

So, with that said, here are five helpful, tested pointers that will keep your attention focused on achieving any goal you put your mind to.

1. Think Positive

This means: Do not quit – especially when working toward a goal. There should be no room for quitting.

To quit is tantamount to going back to the starting line. That is time, energy, money, and a whole lot of momentum wasted. It is more costly to quit than to find a solution to the problem, not to mention the frustration!

2. Keep a Clear, Open, and Stress-free Mind

Always be ready to receive new ideas. Focus and concentrate. Think in a WIDE SCALE manner and always be open to new options to eliminate the obstacle at hand. Think at the “big picture” level, but realize Rome was not built in a day. Eat that elephant one bite at a time!

3. Persist and Persevere

Persevere

Be sure to exhaust every possibility, even to the point of trial and error, just to be sure whether there is a solution to correct the problem you’re dealing with. Never back down just because a goal may appear challenging or even impossible.

4. Simulate

Try to envision a possible solution that will help you overcome and/or solve the obstacle that’s setting you back. Reframe the obstacle, and imagine yourself overcoming it.

5. Ask for Help

Solutions!

If all fails, get assistance from others who are more knowledgeable regarding your goal. Their suggestions may not be exactly what you were hoping to hear, but they may trigger some NEW ideas which result in the right solution to your problem.

Ending Thoughts

We have already entered into a new year. It is time for goals to be set, envisioning greater possibilities than we ever dreamed – in 2023!

3 Powerful Tips to Help Manage Daily Stress: The SECRET PLACE!

Stress-Busting Tip #

Stress…during the “most wonderful times of the year”? If you are one of the “medicated ones,” I salute you! (haha). For the rest of you, here are 3 helpful tips that will help you survive and, maybe, look cool all the way until the day after New Year’s!

Resolve right now to release every thought from yesterday and be only mindful of the now…. this thought only…this breath…this moment. Take in three very deep breaths and slowly release each one. This is a form of self-therapy of the Cognitive Behavioral kind 😉

At the same time feel each and every concern, each and every problem, and each and every unresolved moment, begin to dissolve. You can deal with them at a later time. For now, you are only to be in this very moment.

Practice this quiet and calm each day and you will see that you will accomplish so much more. At the first sign of being stressed, go back to this mindful, quiet place and start all over again until you have reached your inner place of calm.

Now go to your inner quiet place. Go deep inside YOURSELF to a place where you feel that you are at peace and then just relax and breathe in deeply and enjoy the feeling of being at one and at peace within yourself.

Step-Busting Tip # 2

YOUR INNER PEACE DOES NOT DEPEND ON EXTERNAL CIRCUMSTANCES!!!!!

Next, think of one particular act you enjoy and quiet your mind until a sense of calm envelops you…your own SECRET PLACE within! A GREAT practice is reading the Scriptures!!! Read and allow PICTURES of God’s goodness to flood your mind!! The book of Psalms is this author’s recommendation! Psalms 121, 91, & 23 are amazing!!

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:4-6.

Stress-Busting Tip #3

Don’t set yourself up for additional stress!

Limit the amount of salt, sugar, caffeine, and alcohol in your diet. With Halloween goodies still lurking in the house…we have a headstart on sugar overload!

This is the REAL trick of “trick or treat” and we fall for it! On to Thanksgiving – we are more stuffed than that turkey! Christmas brings more of the same, and MANY FAMILIES I know, go and eat that huge meal at 5 or more gatherings!!!!!!

It is not over…New Year’s Day is built around food tradition too!!! This feasting season lasts from October 31st until January 1st!!! That amounts to roughly 2 whole months of feasting out of the 12! And if we do not manage to get that unending cycle of sugar-laden foods broken, Valentine’s Day is just ahead! Watch that FOOD intake! Get SLEEP!

HOW TO USE OUR KNOWLEDGE!!!!

In order to get through this STRESS-free and maybe LOSE weight 😁, GO BACK TO Step-Busting Tip # 2 !!! That SECRET PLACE!!! We have been practicing this at home –

😁 NOW – let’s TAKE IT TO THE STREETS!! That PEACE and discipline we have developed in the Secret Place just might (it will!!!) get us through this, and we will be locked and loaded to deal with Valentine’s Day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2 Keys To Boosting Your Inner Confidence

My hope is that I can write in such a way as to appeal to a broad audience. For this reason, I put my personal beliefs in bold print. I am a follower of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, Who is revealed through the scriptures. If you do not agree, you may skip the bold print. But I feel that blog readers usually read every word, whether they agree or not 😊

“But you, beloved, build yourselves up [founded] on your most holy faith [make progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher], praying in the Holy Spirit…” ~ Jude 1:20 AMPC.

I have been a “people helper” for many years now, and one of the biggest things I’ve learned – both for me and for my clients – is that inner confidence is the key to it all, and that our source of confidence must be a “Higher Source!”

There are all kinds of strategies, ways of thinking, patterns of behavior and practical tips for improving your life and feeling better about yourself, but they’re all redundant if the Foundation isn’t there. That foundation is the real you, the you that you know deep down. The trick is that it takes confidence and courage to find that and to bring out who you are – here are two keys to real inner confidence.

1. Get to Know Your Values

Personal values are a big passion of mine and I often get carried away with myself when I talk about them. I make no apology for that though!! They are one of the most important things you can know about yourself and are vital in getting genuine inner confidence. Your values are ten thousand feet down inside you, right at the very core of who you are; and they are the building blocks, the foundations, and cornerstones for you. A value is something in yourself, in others or in the world that’s most important to you, and includes things like beliefs, progress, family, fun, nature, achievement or freedom.

Why is it that some people and situations leave you feeling angry, frustrated, unmotivated, or deflated? It’s because one or more of your values is being denied, suppressed, or repressed – and we experience that as a negative experience because it’s denying a fundamental piece of who you are. You know those times when you’ve felt alive, amazing, or buzzing? Those are the times when one or more of your values are being honored, and you can get more of that by living according to them.

Your values are all yours, and no matter what happens, no one can ever take them away. You can have absolute confidence in them because they’re there all the time just waiting for you to notice and use them. When you get to know your values, you can start to make choices and align your life around them. It’s so simple and it feels amazing because all that really means is that you’re allowing who you are to live in the real world.

While I base my value system on many things, including education/learning, my Highest Source is the Hebrew Writings of the Law, the Prophets, and Psalms, and the New Covenant (Testament). A verse on confidence in God:

In the reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord there is strong confidence, and His children shall always have a place of refuge. (Proverbs 14:26, AMPC).

2. Exercise the Muscle

Confidence is like a muscle, and muscles need exercise, so that they do not shrink and waste away. The problem is that, unlike your biceps or glutes, which tend to stay in the same place, your confidence muscle can be harder to find. How do you develop your biceps or firm up your glutes? By doing exercises that are designed to work muscles over time, until you see the results you were looking for.

It’s just the same with confidence. Let’s say that you are the kind of person that does not take many risks…the kind of person who goes through each day doing what needs to be done and doing it well, but not really stretching yourself. You might talk yourself out of doing something because it’s too scary or because you think to yourself ‘I am not good enough,’ ‘That’s not who I am’ or ‘I don’t really want it anyway.’ That kind of person lives within self-imposed boundaries -what they know and what keeps them safe and comfortable. The fewer risks they take, the less confident they need to be and so the less confident they become.

To work your confidence muscle, you need to be prepared to take risks – big or small. You need to be willing to stretch yourself in an unfamiliar direction, to try something new or try something in a slightly different way. You need to open yourself up to the possibilities around you and push yourself to increase what you know, what you do and who you are. The more open you are to risk, opportunity, and possibility the more confident you need to be. Develop more confidence!!! That’s your confidence muscle – the question is, what are you going to do to exercise it?”

My Final Word

Keeping oneself spiritually fit enables a person to experience a “Higher Source” of strength from which to draw inner confidence:

But grow in grace (undeserved favor, spiritual strength) and recognition and knowledge and understanding of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (the Messiah). To Him [be] glory (honor, majesty, and splendor) both now and to the day of eternity. Amen (so be it)! ~ 2 Peter 3:18, AMPC

9 Ways to Combat Fear

Fear gets to the best of us, whether it is fear of failure, fear of success, or even fear of fear. All of us have experienced fear at some point in our lives and it can be a real stumbling block that holds us back from being truly successful.

Fear cannot hold you back forever if you don’t let it. There are several ways to overcome fear, here are my top 9:

1. SEPARATE REALITY FROM PERCEPTION

Ask yourself what is really going on, locate the facts and place them over your feelings.

2. IDENTIFY THE TRIGGER

Figure out what it is in a situation that triggers you. Learning to identify it will help you learn to combat it.

3. KNOW WHERE FEAR LIVES IN YOUR BODY

A lot of times, fear takes over physically. It affects different people in different ways. Identify if/how it affects your physical body and do the work to take care of your body. As an example, if you hold stress in your back, you can learn stretches, foam rolling, etc. to avoid the pain.

4. PRACTICE GRATITUDE

Every day, list 1-3 things you are thankful for. It doesn’t matter how big or small it is, gratitude helps shift the mind into a positive light, which over time, overcomes fear.

5. LISTEN TO YOUR INNER VOICE

Monitor your inner conversations. IF YOU WOULD NOT SAY IT TO A FRIEND – DO NOT SAY IT TO YOURSELF!!! Speak positively to yourself and remind yourself of your STRENGTHS!

6. CREATE A NEW ASSOCIATION

Remind yourself that the feeling and the moment will pass. Focus on the positive outcome of the situation, rather than the scary in between.

7. LOOK AT THE GLASS HALF FULL

Perception is a very powerful thing, and how you feel about your situation dictates how you respond. So think positively and you’ll give yourself a much better chance of success. This won’t happen overnight; practice with just one thought. What is one recurring negative or fearful thought you have? Work on reversing this one thought. Over time, this will become a habit.

8. PRACTICE BREATHING EXERCISES TO COMBAT ANXIETY

Breathing helps center your body. When we are fearful or anxious, we get breathless. In fact, the mind tells us we are dying because we cannot get a breath. This can lead to a panic attack! (We do not want it to get that far!!)

We must do a grounding exercise – just take 5 deep, long breaths at any point to calm and center yourself. It is best to start your day with this, but feel free to practice all day long.

9. CREATE A SAFE SPACE

When we feel safe and secure, there is no room for fear. Find somewhere or SOMEONE safe to retreat to when fear or anxious feelings begin- whether this is a real place such as a bedroom, or a place in the mind such as the beach. This sense of comfort will soothe us and allow us to face our fear.

Please keep in mind, these are just 9 strategies, not everything works for everyone. But this is a place to start. Begin implementing these techniques into your life and don’t let fear hold you back. Fear and anxiety can keep you from reaching your goals and your highest potential in the future! Do not allow that to happen!

WANT TO REALLY OVERCOME? – REFRAME!

Carl Rogers is my all-time favorite person-centered psychologist. He believed, and I concur, that when anxiety happens, instead of allowing it to get the upper hand, we can reframe the experience.

In order to reframe anxiety, EMBRACE it as an obstacle to overcome!! Instead of allowing it to dominate, debilitate, and exterminate our joy, we can re-imagine it, leading to positive change and increased self-esteem.

I will share more on reframing our moments in future blogs!

3 Steps To Discovering Your Purpose

Determining our purpose in life can be one of the most perplexing questions humans try to answer. In this article, we will be exploring feelings and beliefs, and hope to gain insight into life, to help give it a meaningful direction!

There are three steps to the process of discovering the purpose of your life:

  1. Knowing you have a DIVINE ASSIGNMENT
  1. Knowing WHO assigned you
  1. Aligning your life – by DISCOVERY, not DECISION

Norman Vincent Peale has this to say about the power of choice. “The greatest power we have is the power of choice. It is an actual fact, that if you have been groping under unhappiness, you can choose to be joyous, instead. And, by effort, lift yourself into joy. If you tend to be fearful, you can overcome that misery by choosing to have courage. The whole trend and the quality of anyone’s life is determined by the choices that are made”.

Have you ever wondered what your purpose in life is? Do you sense dissatisfaction and sometimes wonder if life is meaningless. You may ask yourself if your perceived mundane existence is all there is. As you age, do you fear that you might never achieve that sense of a purposeful life? I hope you will consider my brief thoughts.

Knowing You Have A Divine Assignment

“KNOWING” you have a DIVINE assignment will remove fear.  You may ask, “Can I be free from fear about the future?” That is an absolute, “YES!” Fear can be healthy as a defense mechanism of safety, but fear is not your friend when it concerns your purpose in life. If given full reign, fear can cause any person to miss his or her divine assignment. The truth is, we cannot overcome fear with human ability. We must pursue a Super Power!

Super Power? Isn’t that pure fantasy? The availability of our Super Power is no fantasy; however, it IS fantastic! The power comes from the source of our assignment, and it is all in knowing the Giver. I sure hope, reader, that you accept the biblical text, because it is the Bible that gives the answers we need.

Knowing WHO Assigned You

“Before I made you in your mother’s womb, I chose you. Before you were born, I set you apart for a special work…” (Jeremiah 1:5 (New Century Version).

Just like Jeremiah, the Creator who made us in the womb gives a divine assignment to all! It is important that we know that God gave us all a special purpose. It is up to us to discern what special work WE are set apart to do! There are questions to ask yourself, for example:

  • What breaks my heart?

As you watch the evening news, what brings you tears? Is it senseless violence, abused children, cruelty to animals, mental illness, senior abuse, injustice…the list goes on and on. The thing that grieves you is a clue to your assignment. Keep asking…what breaks my heart?

  • What problem are you gifted to solve?

Examine the abilities that you already have.

Self-awareness is a necessity for discerning your assignment in life, but that is not all. All the discernment would be vain without KNOWING the One who calls. It was the Creator of life in the womb who called Jeremiah and is the same with us. This is where the DIVINE part comes in. God desires that we pursue His Presence – the Holy Spirit, who walks at our right hand.

Aligning Your life – by DISCOVERY, not DECISION

Becoming self-aware includes alignment with the Creator, for there is no understanding apart from Him. Begin journaling if you do not currently practice this. You will begin to see patterns develop. Make note of the insight you receive, and allow God to enlarge the concepts in your heart and mind. Do not expect to align your life immediately. It may take a while, but recognize that God is the one who assigns.

So many people believe that our purpose is discerned by the decisions we make. This places much pressure, especially upon those of us who pursue excellence. But once we realize that our assignment is a DISCOVERY, it shifts the perceived heavy load we have and the Holy Spirit enables us.

It gets BETTER! This discovery process is the most exciting experience of our lives! THIS PATH IS FILLED WITH DIVINE SURPRISES!! Discovering our assignment is like a treasure hunt which GUARANTEES rich rewards!!

Please do not delay your discovery. There is no risk with God. When we seek and expect His influence upon our hearts, He guides and empowers us along the way.

Fear does not belong on our journey – remember, fear is not our friend. Do not welcome this foe! You were put on this earth to achieve your greatest self – to discover your assignment – do it courageously!

Call to mind the words of Erin Hanson…

“There is freedom waiting for you,

On the breezes of the sky,

And you ask “What if I fall?”

Oh but my darling,

What if you fly?”

FULLY EMBRACE YOUR “QUESTIONING MOMENTS”

INTRODUCING MYSELF

For I am about to do something new.

See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?

I will make a pathway through the wilderness.

I will create rivers in the dry wasteland. ~ Isaiah 43:19

God is always doing NEW things – creating brand new MOMENTS!!

So many people only see God as the entity mentioned in the Bible who has been involved in history. But, God wants us to know Him as the God who is IN OUR MOMENTS! He is present in every life into which He is invited. Those who desire God’s Presence in the moment can always expect the new – peace, strength, wisdom, acceptance, forgiveness – what we need most!!

I will be writing about God and His Presence in every moment of our lives. I am praying that those who hunger for God will make a connection with my blog posts and identify with the LIVING GOD that we pursue. It would be even greater if some accidently stumble on the blogs and find the REALITY that they need in these challenging times we are in.

The body of Christ has become somewhat fragmented in the last few years. My prayer is that we, as His fragments, can bond together with living reality and make a powerful difference for “such a time as this.” May we all find the grace we need from each other, and Jesus’ rest for our souls!

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. ~ Matthew 11:29

6 Questions To Ask Yourself When Pursuing Your Dreams

1. What’s your highest priority in this lifetime?

What’s most important for you to experience, explore or embrace this time around? Until you answer this question, your life goals will be off purpose. Unaligned with your inner passion, your intentions will lack the power to attract the people and situations necessary to become a reality.

Get clued into your true joy. What activities did you enjoy as a child? What are your hobbies now? When your goals are aligned with your soul, synchronicity kicks in to guide you to your target.

2. Is this your dream, or someone else’s?

Are your goals your own choice, or what others think you should strive for? Do you want to look back in your old age and wish you had followed your passion? Will you regret having “played it safe?”

Is it selfish to go after your own dream? What joy can you give to others if you haven’t given it to yourself first?

3. Are you settling for less than?

Are you resigned to accepting less than your full share of love, health and success this lifetime? Have you compromised and sacrificed your dream?

Anything short of living your true passions will never make you happy.

4. What will you feel like when you reach your dream?

Personal passion fuels a vision. Dive into the thrill and exhilaration of the feeling of living your dream.

The Hawaiian Kahuna say, “Where your creative attention flows, so flows your life.”

 5. What steps can you take today toward your dream?

Don’t defer your dream. Set up supports and systems around you to instantly translate your intentions into action. Jump on every opportunity that is in line with your purpose and vision.

Are there smaller projects that lead to your larger dream? If the dream is to run a marathon, train for a local fun-run first. And find a way to measure your progress. Track those little wins-by writing in a journal or telling a friend.

6. Are you telling yourself: “I can’t have my dream?”

Most people don’t believe they can live their dream. Either their belief system has them believing they can’t make a living doing what they love, or they feel they don’t deserve their dream. To avoid the pain of feeling they can’t have their dream, people often keep their dream so buried they can’t remember they ever had a dream.

Everyone has a dream! And everyone is destined to fulfill that purpose. Why wait?

EMBRACE YOUR MOMENT!!!!!!!!😊
